8 Days 7 Nights Explore The Great Rift Valley Lakes: Elementaita – Nakuru – Bogoria – Baringo – Naivasha – Maasai Mara National Reserve

Travel over the Great Rift Valley and discover a series of lakes which are found at various intervals – the vast Turkana in the north (known as the Jade Sea), followed by Baringo, Bogoria, Nakuru, Elementaita, Naivasha and in the far south, Magadi. Lake Natron begins on the border with Tanzania and stretches away to the south.

The heavily alkaline lakes such as Bogoria, Nakuru, Elementaita, Magadi and Natron are rich in blue-green algae which attracts vast flocks of greater and lesser flamingos, whilst the predominantly freshwater lakes of Turkana, Baringo and Naivasha are home to populations of hippo, crocodile and a wide range of water birds.

Now, get set for a pack and unpack adventure at Lake Elementaita, Lake Nakuru, Lake Bogoria, Lake Baringo, and Lake Naivasha. In the tradition of a Kenyan safari signature, you visit the Maasai Mara National Reserve for more journals. Drop at JKIA airport enriched with more knowledge about the region’s, topography.

Day One: Nairobi to Lake Elementaita Wildlife Sanctuary

Distance : Approximately 135Kms
Drive Duration: About 3hours
You will be met by the company representative and driver guide at your place of accommodation within Nairobi or at the JKIA airport. After meet & greet, you will be briefed on the tour, then depart for Lake Elementaita with a brief stopover at the Great Rift Valley view-point. You will arrive to check in at the lodge for lunch. After lunch will explore the natural beauty around this lake. You will visit Soysambu Conservancy for a chance to spot variety of herbivores such as Rothschild’s Giraffe elands buffalos Impalas, reedbuck as well as lions, leopards, hyenas, and jackals and some bird species on the lake. The lake also supports one of the major breeding colonies of the Great White Pelicans in the world and is the only place in Kenya where Pelicans breed. Up to 8,000 pairs of Great White Pelican have bred there when the water levels are high and the rocky outcrops in the eastern sector are flooded to form islets on which the birds can safely nest. Late in the evening you will return to the resort for dinner and overnight stay.

Day Two: Lake Elementaita Wildlife Sanctuary – Lake Nakuru National Park

Distance : Approximately 25Kms
Drive Duration: About 50 Mins
After breakfast you will check out and depart for the immediate Lake Nakuru National Park. You will check in and have lunch at the lodge. After lunch you will go for the afternoon game drives around this Lake, famous for its Rhinoceros sanctuary. Other wildlife include; Rothschild giraffe, the African cape buffaloes and other smaller species such as the Thompsons gazelle. It is also a prime area to see the Nocturnal Leopard on a lucky day. At 1800 hours you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day Three: Lake Nakuru to Lake Bogoria

Distance : Approximately 115Kms
Drive Duration: About 2hours
After breakfast you depart for Lake Bogoria to arrive in time for lunch at Lake Bogoria Spa Resort. After lunch you go for a breathtaking view of this 32sq km alkaline lake which is still volcanically active. The Western shore is lined with spouting geysers, spurting steam and the bubbling geothermal pools at the Lake edge attract an abundance of birds and wildlife.  You also get to boil eggs in the geysers. At 1800hrs you are back to the resort for dinner and overnight.

Day Four: Lake Bogoria to Lake Baringo and Back

Distance : Approximately 45Kms
Drive Duration: About 50Mins
Breakfast at 0800 hrs. At 0900hrs you depart for the neighboring Lake Baringo, a 30 mins drive gets you there. It is one of the two fresh water lakes in Kenya, the other being Lake Naivasha. Over 470 species of birds have been recorded here, occasionally including migrating flamingoes. You will have your lunch at Soi Safari Lodge. After lunch you engage in various activities; Motor cruise in the Lake and see birds, wildlife, islands and scenery, Take excursions to the Njemps village, A visit to the spectacular cliff nearby, 5minutes walk to the reptile park, Take a visit to the Devil’s Island by boat, watch the Fish Eagle feed on fish in the lake among others. Most of these activities like boat ride are paid direct to the boatmen and are dependent on the water levels. After the adventure you return to your accommodation as reserved.

Day Five: Lake Bogoria to Lake Naivasha

Distance : Approximately 185Kms
Drive Duration: About 4hours
After breakfast, you depart for Lake Naivasha to arrive in time for lunch. After lunch, with the help of the driver you will get the boat men to take you for  a boat ride on the lake to crescent Island. This wildlife sanctuary offers home to over 350 species of birds. Whether on cycling, walking and boat ride safaris there is the opportunity to view birds like the pelicans, the cormorants as well as flamingoes. A number of animals can be seen grazing in the surroundings of the lake; including the Masai giraffe, zebra, dikdiks, steenbok, impala gazelle and hippos. At your pace you enjoy the peace and calmness broken only by sounds of the islands inhabitants. When done with leisure on the lake, you will return to your accommodation dinner and overnight.

Day Six: Lake Naivasha – Masai Mara  National Reserve

Distance : Approximately 231Kms
Drive Duration: About 5hours
After breakfast you depart for Masai Mara national reserve; driving through the beautiful flower farms of Naivasha heading to Narok; your stopover point. You proceed to arrive in time for lunch. After lunch you will go for the afternoon game drives. The Mara reserve incorporates 1510 km² of incredible, wide-open landscapes and fertile reverie woodland following the looping meanders of the Mara and Talek rivers in Kenya. One glimpse is enough to explain its appeal; it is a typical open savannah, with a mass of amazing wildlife. Returning from your foray into Maasai Mara you will have dinner and relax under the stars, falling asleep to the sounds of the bush. Dinner and overnight at the lodge. Meals Included: Breakfast, lunch, & dinner.

 

Day Seven: Maasai Mara National Reserve Full Day Game drives 

After breakfast you will pick your packed lunch then proceed for the day’s game drive to further explore the rolling hills and the grasslands in this vast game reserve. The game drives take you in search of Africa’s Big Five and the plethora of other wildlife inhabiting this game reserve. On clear days, the Mara offers fantastic orange tinged sunset’s well-worth capturing on camera. Wherever you go in the vast Masai Mara you will see a frequent amount of wildlife such as the Masai giraffe, Baboons, Warthogs, the bat eared foxes, the grey jackals, the spotted hyena, Topis, Impala, Hartebeests, wildebeest. The Savannah Elephants, the African cape buffaloes, Zebras and Hippos are also found in great numbers. It is also common to see Black manned lions either basking after a heavy meal, or surveying the plains for their next meal. Leopards are usually nocturnal, but reasonably common. Back to the lodge in evening for dinner and overnight.

Day Eight: Maasai Mara National Reserve – Nairobi / Departure

Distance: About 265 Kms,
Driving time; about 5hours
After breakfast you will check out and go for a cultural visit to the Maasai village before departure. As you arrive there, excited children and adults welcome you with songs and dances, at certain times, one of the dancers will jump up and down gracefully. The jumps are several feet high! You will be invited to try jumping too, but to your dismay you will be no match for their levitation act!! You will then be welcome into one of the homesteads in the village huts (called Manyatta) are made of cow dung and clay plastered over stick frames. It is a memorable experience of its own after which you will embark on you journey to Nairobi. On your way you will have a stopover for lunch at Narok Town. After lunch you will proceed to arrive Nairobi at about 1500 hrs when you will be transferred to JKIA to check in for your departure flight. Activities on this last day wholly depend on your flight schedule. Meals included: Breakfast & Lunch.
